Book Fair

I never find the time to write about what´s really important to me, but, it´s been almost two months since the International Book Fair took place. And for the second year my book participated in the independent author stand. My goal was to make as many contacts as possible, so I sent out 150 e-mails to pottential publishers & literary agents that would be interested in my kind of work, somehow only six persons contacted me back and they got filtered down to only two -1 on 1- meetings / the first one was really bad because it was with Cinco Puntos Press and John Williams Byrd was really straight forward on his feedback after i had given him my manuscript the day before through his assistant, when we met he said my book was written as if it was translated directly from Spanish to English, I said No, of course, and he said I should try to publish it first in Spanish and then come back to him, but, I ask: Why would i even write in English in the first place? and make an effort on doing something different as a Mexican Author writting in English and pursuing getting published in English when my first language is Spanish, I could have easily wrote it in Spanish from the get go, but I chose not to, so that didn´t went well, and Cinco Puntos Press is all about publishing books about borderline related topics, so I was really surprised and upset that day for him giving me a piece of reality.

Lucily the next day I received an e-mail from Susan Bird from Interlicense, ltd; a literary agent from California that I never really contacted her but somehow she got a hold of my information, we met, and in the middle of the conversation we both realized that we were there for different reasons, because she published motivational books, which of course my book is not. But then somehow we worked around it, started asking me questions and got interested, I did a good pitch (i guess). She promised me that she could drop it on the right´s persons desk, so they could help me, she was really cool. she knows people in the book industry all over the world, and also attends the annual German Book Fair, so i believe in her. I don´t know how long it will take me, but, I won´t stop until i make it happen. paulo.
